New Jersey’s Casinos have started taking room reservation bookings for June, despite no official announcement on when the properties will re-open following the COVID-19 lockdown.
Tropicana and Caesars re-opened their online booking system and are accepting reservations from June 15 which would indicate that they except to be allowing guests into the hotels before that date.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s lockdown restrictions technically did not force any Atlantic City Hotels to close but the closure of the Casino properties, and the Social Distancing measures required, meant it was financially impossible for the Hotels to accept guests. However, it now appears that some are preparing for re-opening.
Richard Broome, a spokesman for Caesar’s said: “part of our plan to ensure we have business when we are allowed to re-open.”
“The date does not indicate that we have any insight into the actual re-opening date,” Broome said.
It does appear though that Atlantic City is close to opening for business with precedents being set already by some Tribal Casinos. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun have stated that they will reopen for business on June 1 in Connecticut and there are similar plans for the Tribal Nations in other states, due to the fact that the Tribes act as independent nations and can defy the closures. Once the first wave of openings begin, it seems certain that the rest will follow.
