A Las Vegas police officer has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison after being found guilty of committing three casino heists between November 2021 and February 2022.
Caleb M. Rogers, a 35-year-old officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following three heists which took place in Las Vegas.
Rogers stole more than $160,000 in the three casino heists. He drew his service firearm during one of the heists, which has contributed to his 12-year sentence.
The court was told that Rogers was struggling financially due to a gambling addiction, which led to his actions between November 2021 and February 2022.
On November 12, 2021, dressed in dark clothing and a mask, Rogers ordered the woman behind the casino cage at Red Rock to hand over money. More than $70,000 was taken that day.
Security cameras caught him leaving the casino. More importantly, the cameras caught him seeming unable to run and kicking his left foot out while walking.
Less than two months later, on January 6, 2022, Rogers carried out his second heist.
Parking in a handicapped space outside Aliante Casino & Hotel, his same walk was noticed by security cameras. That day, Rogers stole around $11,500.
Rogers’ third and final robbery took place on February 27, 2022. This one was more aggressive.
He demanded that two employees hand over the money, then climbed over the counter and shoved one of the employees to the floor. This robbery was unsuccessful, as security caught up with Rogers.
During struggles with security, Rogers pulled out a gun, which the court learned he had obtained due to his occupation as a police offer. He threatened to fire, but fortunately never fired. Prosecutors said that he later identified himself using his police identification number.
