There has been lots of excitement around the change in Michigan’s online gambling laws in recent months. In December 2019, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the Lawful Internet Gaming act and the state is now poised to become a serious player in online sports and casino betting. The Michigan online gambling laws have included sports betting, fantasy sports, online poker and casino games as the new legal activities in the state.
With over 10 million people in the state, Michigan could be a new powerhouse as far as gambling states go. The Wolverine State will join New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia as a state which offers full online gambling (both sports and casino) and will join the likes of Tennessee and Colorado as a ‘sports betting state’.
To coincide with Michigan online gambling laws, all casino and sportsbook brands who wish to operate in the state must partner with a Michigan land-based casino. Here is the list of brands that will be entering the Michigan gaming space and their land-based casino partners:
It is still unclear as to when Michigan will officially launch online casino and sports betting, but it is expected to be within the next few weeks. January 2021 is the expected month of launch.
Some of the sports and casino heavyweights are already promoting their generous pre-launch offers for Michigan residents. For example, BetMGM and DraftKings are both giving any customers who register before the launch $100 in sportsbook credit and $100 in casino credit on the house. BetRivers are offering $50 in site credit, again on the house.
To add to the excitement, PointsBet Sportsbook has just partnered with the Detroit Pistons. Online casino and sports betting is soon to become a big part of the lives of many in Michigan.
