6 Reasons Why Wynn is the Best Place to Stay in Las Vegas

After visiting Wynn Las Vegas for a second time in 2023, here are the key reasons why this resort is a must-stay location on the iconic strip.

March Madness is a time for big screens, betting slips and hope on the quest for the perfect bracket. That hope is often shattered in the early stages of the NCAA Tournament for myself every year.

A welcome addition to the March Madness festivities in recent years has been our trip to Sin City. The home of the best casinos, nightlife and entertainment. Oh, and five-star luxury Wynn Las Vegas resort.

On both occasions, in 2022 and 2023, we stayed at the Wynn. Our trips involved visits to neighboring hotels along the Las Vegas strip to sample the fine dining options, casino floors, leisure activities and entertainment.

However, it became evident pretty quickly that staying at the Wynn is special. More special than time spent at any other resort in Vegas. With that, I decided to outline the main reasons why Wynn Las Vegas is the best place to stay on the Las Vegas strip. It’s not hard to compose a list like this.

Reason 1: Dining Options at Wynn Las Vegas

This is the number one reason why Wynn Las Vegas is the best location on the strip. The dining options are truly incredible.

During our stays at the Wynn, we dined at:

‘Fine Dining’ Spots

  • Mizumi
  • Delilah
  • SW Steakhouse
  • Wing Lei
  • Cipriani

‘Casual Dining’ Spots

  • Red 8
  • Terrace Point Café
  • Urth Caffé
  • Jardin
  • Allegro

Everyone goes on about The Buffet at the Wynn. Unfortunately, due to wait times, we were unable to sample some of the 100 dishes on offer at this casual dining spot in the hotel. However, we’ve heard some great things.

Point to Note… The honest reality is that there are too many people at the resort to be catered for. When you combine Wynn guests, footfall from the Vegas strip, guests at the Encore next door and those visiting the grounds for conferences, exhibitions and golf, it’s a significant number of people that want to eat. As a result, we did note that almost all restaurants and cafés require a booking in advance. We urge you to book to avoid missing out.

Let’s dive into the dining experiences we faced at each of the restaurants we visited.

Our Top Pick: Mizumi

Ok, this has to be discussed first. What a place. With two Michelin stars to its name, it is no surprise.

We dined at Mizumi on a Saturday night in the private room. Our party size was 11, yet the private room still felt extremely spacious. The multi-award winning restaurant looks out onto Wynn-owned Japanese gardens, surrounding a pond with a 90-foot waterfall. You can even book out the floating pagoda table, which sits at the end of a long dock, under the waterfall. It’s the best seat in the house, but unfortunately cannot cater for 11 guests at once.

We’ve not even mentioned the food yet. We got to experience a wide range of Japanese specialities, from fresh sashimi to yellowtail carpaccio. Just look at the colors on display.

Yellowtail at Mizumi

One of the highlights for the group was the Mizumi Wagyu steak, which we cooked ourselves on a hot stone. This interactive part of the meal, combined with the ambience of the restaurant and the flavors on offer, makes Mizumi the best restaurant to visit at Wynn Las Vegas.

Chinese Cuisine: Wing Lei & Red 8

From Japan, to China. The Wynn is home to two mouth-watering Chinese dining venues.

First up, let’s talk about Wing Lei. It’s the pinnacle of class, located in a luxurious gold dining room. Quite rightly, Wing Lei has earned itself one Michelin star. In fact, it was the first Chinese restaurant in North America to earn one.

The highlight of our meal at Wing Lei was the Imperial Peking duck. It was carved tableside and accompanied by steamed buns, Mandarin crêpes, cucumber, scallions and hoisin sauce. What a treat.

Red 8, on the other hand, is a more casual dining experience. If you’re looking for a more affordable, but almost as tasty, Chinese meal then look no further than the edge of the casino floor. That’s where you’ll find Red 8, with lots of dim sum and Cantonese noodle options.

We ate here on our last night before hitting the tables again, just a few feet from where we ate our meal.

Top-Class Steak: SW Steakhouse

There’s another Forbes Travel Guide Four Star award-winning restaurant under the roof of the Wynn. This time, we’re talking steak.

With tables onlooking the Lake of Dreams (if you haven’t seen one of the nightly shows, watch this), SW Steakhouse boasts an incredible atmosphere. The food is also mouth-watering.

If you visit, literally all of the steaks on the menu are top notch. Give the pan-roasted sea scallops a try too.

SW Steakhouse Wynn

People often compare SW Steakhouse and STK Steakhouse at the Cosmopolitan. From those I know who have eaten at both, it sounds like SW might just edge it.

Beautiful Brunches: Jardin & Terrace Point Café

Both of these Wynn-based establishments are classed as ‘casual dining’ spots. And both are ideal for a top-class brunch.

The menus at Terrace Point Café and Jardin are actually very similar. Options include:

  • Eggs Benedict
  • Waffles
  • French Toast
  • Pancake & Eggs
  • Huevos Rancheros

Although, remember our piece of advice – if you want a table straight away, be sure to book in advance. There are some great tables at Terrace Point Café looking onto the Wynn’s outdoor swimming pool.

Awesome Pizza: Allegro

Just like Red 8, Allegro can be found on the edge of the hotel’s casino floor. Easy to get to after a big win on the tables…

This casual Italian eatery is certainly not ‘fine dining’. However, their pizzas are immense. We shared some pizzas between the group and they were perfectly crisp, straight out the wood oven. The pizzas at Allegro are priced at around $25 each.

To-Go: Urth Caffé

Looking for a quick bite to eat on your way out for the day? Urth Caffé is your place to go.

Organic coffee, breakfast burritos, Belgian waffles, fruit, cakes and pastries. Lots of options for all palates. I had a fruit smoothie and an Italian omelette, a solid choice.

Reason 2: The Golf Course

In the words of Wynn Las Vegas, Wynn Golf Club really is “a course designed like no other”.

Yes, the par-70, 6,722-yard golf course is actually on the Las Vegas strip. It’s almost unimaginable.

For years, MGM-owned Shadow Creek was the golfing highlight of Vegas. However, that 20-minute drive from the heart of the Vegas strip now seems like an effort compared to Wynn Golf Club, which is literally on the hotel’s doorstep. We’re talking a 5-minute walk from your hotel room door to the door of the pro shop.

Wynn Golf Club

After playing the course, there were a few takeaways.

Firstly, the course is designed so that you are often oblivious to the fact that the strip is just behind the trees. You don’t get any of the outside noise and, quite honestly, you could be out in the country and it wouldn’t feel any different.

Secondly, the course caters for all skill levels – from occasional golfers to seasoned pros. Normally, that is the type of flex that golf courses would boast about for promotion and marketing purposes. But it really is true in this case. We had golfers in our group ranging from 30 handicaps to those off scratch.

Last, but not least, Wynn Golf Club is the best-kept golf course I’ve ever played. The conditions of the course are truly remarkable.

You even get Callaway clubs included in your booking, so no need to bring your own if travelling from abroad.

The Highlight of Wynn Golf Club

For me, it has to be the 18th. The idyllic par-3 has water running down the left of the hole, bunkers in abundance, and a waterfall behind the green. Perfect for that 18th-hole group photo.

Even better, a hole-in-one on the 18th will win you a cash prize. The value depends on the tees you are playing from.

Reason 3: The Best Casino Floor in Vegas

Bold statement, I know. But having visited the majority of casinos on the Vegas strip, I stand by my statement. Here are the reasons why the Wynn casino floor is the best in Las Vegas.

Appearance

Wynn’s casino floor is the brightest, most colorful casino floor in the whole of Vegas. Where else do you find a full floral display spanning one side of the casino?

Casino Floor Atrium Wynn

Everything, from the colorful carpets to the bright lights and lamp shades above the casino tables, makes the casino floor at Wynn Las Vegas an awesome place to hang out.

Atmosphere

One thing I noted was how busy the casino floor was. No matter what time of day – 6 a.m. or 11 p.m. – the floor is bustling.

The placement of the blackjack and roulette tables is also pretty smart. The tables are located around the edges of the casino floor, which makes it easy for those walking through the casino to hear the noise, see the action and decide to join in the fun.

To complement the casino floor itself, the bars and restaurants surrounding it add to the upbeat atmosphere and give a real positive feel to the place. The WynnBET Sportsbook, located on one side of the casino floor (right next to Allegro) definitely contributes to the noise. As do the large-screen televisions located throughout the casino floor, which were showing March Madness games live while we were there.

Convenience

The annoying thing about most of the casinos on the Las Vegas strip is that you cannot get out once you’re finished gambling. This is definitely tactical, but I still don’t like it. It takes too long to find an exit or get to another section of the hotel.

However, Wynn Las Vegas is different. Yes, the hotel’s casino floor is huge. Of course it is. But it doesn’t make it impossible for you to find the nearest exit if you’re heading down to Fremont Street, to the mall next door or out to explore. There are a number of well-signed exits at different parts of Wynn’s casino floor. And if you still can’t find an exit, there are loads of Wynn employees hanging around to assist you.

Reason 4: Shopping Options

Yes, I know I just said that you may be leaving the hotel to go and shop at the mall next door. But there is actually no need to leave the Wynn. It has its own shopping mall.

Any high-end designer brand. You name it, Wynn has it. The hotel is home to the following brand stores:

  • Saint Laurent
  • Louis Vuitton
  • Rolex
  • Prada
  • Moncler
  • Van Cleef & Arpels
  • Chanel

There are plenty more, but you get the idea. In fact, the options are so good that Wynn welcomes guests from across Las Vegas to their premium stores. The stores available actually span from the Wynn through to the Encore next door.

Reason 5: The World’s Best DJs

If you’re partial to a night out in Vegas, the Wynn is your best bet for some A-list celebrity DJs to help make the night an unforgettable one.

XS Nightclub at the Wynn is labelled by many as the go-to nightlife venue. And, if you want options, Encore Beach Club is just a 2-minute walk from XS with some great entertainment there too.

Between XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club, entertainment throughout the year includes appearances from:

  • David Guetta
  • Diplo
  • Marshmello
  • Alesso
  • Kygo
  • Tyga
  • Gryffin
  • Dillon Francis
  • The Chainsmokers
  • Calvin Harris

Reason 6: Signature Piece of Las Vegas

This final reason is due to significance more than anything.

Wynn Las Vegas was named after the resort’s developer, Steve Wynn. Steve Wynn is famous for overseeing the development of several Las Vegas and Atlantic City hotels. Those Vegas establishments include:

  • Golden Nugget
  • The Mirage
  • Treasure Island
  • The Bellagio

These projects made Steve Wynn one of the most influential people in shaping Las Vegas. He contributed significantly to the Vegas strip’s rapid expansion in the 1990s.

Mirage Las Vegas

In 2002, Wynn took Wynn Resorts Limited public. Just three years later, he opened Wynn Las Vegas – his most expensive resort at the time. It goes down as his swan song for the Vegas strip after years of contributions.

So, by staying at the Wynn, you’re staying in a building of huge importance to Vegas.

Fun Fact 1: Steve Wynn is vegan, which has had an impact on all of his owned properties. As a result, animal-free menus are found at all of his restaurants.

Fun Fact 2: Steve Wynn and Frank Sinatra are incredibly close friends. Who remembers their TV commercials in the 1980s? Anyway, Sinatra in Wynn Las Vegas is named after Frank Sinatra, due to Steve Wynn’s affinity with the American singer.
