Orgeon currently allows legal spots betting but is it is a single operator market, run by the Oregon Lottery. The State Lottery app, ‘Scoreboard’ is the only one legally available in Oregon, although that may be set to change.
DraftKings acquisition of SBTech, who provide the software for the Oregon Scoreboard app, means that the app may transfer to their popular sportbook app, which is available in many other states. Whether this is merely an aesthetic change to ensure that the app is using the best popular tech or if it is the beginning of a loosening of Oregon sports betting laws remains to be seen.
Oregon does not currently permit online casino gambling and it seems that the state is some way off from that step. The fact that the only Oregon casinos are run by Native American Tribes, and the fact that there are eight different tribes operating the nine casinos, means that an agreement on legal online casino would be very difficult.
A state run casino app is exceptionally unlikely and none of the Tribal Casinos are likely to release their own digital offering. Partnerships with existing online casino operators is also tough, given the restrictions around entry for those brands for sports betting.
Oregon residents are also out of luck somewhat with regards to neighboring states as neither California nor Idaho offers any legal online gambling. Washington is in the process of legalising sports betting and while Nevada is the spiritual home of American gambling, anyone wishing to gamble on casino games online must register for the apps in the casinos themselves first. This is restrictive if you want to pop across the border for some slot spinning in a local bar, as opposed to venturing to Las Vegas for a holiday.
